Upon graduating high school, I had the good fortune to be accepted to Tongji University, the best civil engineering school in China. After completing a bachelor’s degree in structural engineering, I moved to the other side of the globe to attend the University of Cincinnati for my master’s degree. Soon after, I joined THP, the best structural engineering firm in the area. Now I have lived more than half of my life in Cincinnati.
At THP I have had the opportunity to gain experience from the top engineering minds in the area. The experiences I have gained here have allowed me to design and manage a variety of projects ranging from large public facilities to major hospitals, university buildings, industrial plants, and parking garages.
As a principal, I am heavily involved with projects in our structural and parking groups. I lead our higher education pursuit team and help coach our young engineers. I have a special interest in seismic engineering because of several projects I was involved with in the early 2010’s. I am fascinated with the process of designing “smart” structures to resist seismic activity, which require more flexible—but not necessarily stronger—structures.
Today I strive to focus on my clients’ needs by providing the highest-quality designs possible. To achieve this goal, I make every attempt to understand the perspectives of owners, fellow consultants, construction managers, contractors, and all others involved. My philosophy is that structural engineering is inherently a field driven by creativity and collaboration. Looking back at my time at THP, my most enjoyable moments have been figuring out a complicated and challenging situation of geometry, sequence, or coordination, producing a creative structural approach to a complicated issue, and helping my whole team.
Outside of work, I reside with my wife, son, and daughter in Mason, Ohio. In my free time, I enjoy playing basketball, solving sudoku puzzles, listening to classical music, and traveling with my family.
