As is quite common among structural engineers, all the signs were there from early childhood that my future lay with the AEC industry. I have always been interested in how things work — as a child I would tear apart and put back together any toys or gadgets that I could and often got more joy out of building the Barbie houses and neighborhood than I did playing with the dolls. I was exposed to civil engineering more specifically through an elective class in high school, and pretty much instantly fell in love. Realizing that I could make a career out of essentially playing high-stakes LEGOs was incredible news.
I attended the University of Dayton (UD) to pursue a degree in civil engineering with a focus on structures. I loved UD so much and felt like there was still so much for me to learn that I stayed there to complete a master’s degree in the same field. I spent my co-op terms working in the construction department at The Toledo Zoo – a job that I greatly enjoyed (and not just because I got to be friends with all the animals). My combined education at UD and experience at the Zoo helped to solidify my desire to pursue structural engineering as a career. I have always loved learning and find that to be one of the best parts of my job, since there is always something new to be discovered, analyzed, and understood. That desire to solve a problem, to find the answers to “why?” and “how?” is what continues to drive me today.
In the years since finishing school, I have been able to work on a wide variety of projects in various industries but especially enjoy designing wood structures. I also enjoy communicating with designers and owners/clients by translating technical knowledge and finding a balance between desires and expectations to guarantee a successful project.
I joined THP in early 2026 and immediately felt right at home. I am excited to work with an amazing group of engineers and designers here and become a better engineer myself. In addition to working at THP, I am actively involved in the Basic Education Committee with the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio (SEAoO), which focuses on student outreach and getting young engineering minds interested in the structures field.
I live in Dayton, Ohio with my husband Nick and our dog Riley. Outside of work I enjoy spending time outside with walks in my neighborhood and the Metroparks, reading mystery novels, sewing, engaging with arts of all kinds (especially live theater and ballet), and tackling lots and lots of logic puzzles.
