THP provided façade assessment, repair design, and construction administration services for the restoration of Rhinegeist Brewery’s historic masonry façade in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood. The project originated after compromised concrete elements created safety concerns along the building exterior. An investigation revealed extensive deterioration of historic precast concrete components embedded within a multi-wythe masonry wall that supports portions of the building structure.

THP developed a repair program that balanced public safety, historic preservation requirements, and ongoing brewery operations. The work included replacement of deteriorated precast concrete bands, parapet reconstruction, masonry repointing using historically appropriate mortar, and coordination with contractors to perform repairs while maintaining building access and minimizing disruption to adjacent streets and the neighboring streetcar line. The design team utilized laser scanning and Building Information Modeling (BIM) to document existing conditions and develop replacement components that match the historic façade profile.
